FC Magdeburg secures the acquisition of Mateusz Zukowski, a 23-year-old forward from Polish second division team Slask Wroclaw.
FCM Signs Polish Winger Mateusz Zukowski
- FC Magdeburg has announced the signing of Mateusz Zukowski, a 23-year-old winger, from Slask Wroclaw. The Polish international brings a wealth of experience and technical prowess to the club, aiming to further enrich and complement 1. FC Magdeburg's offense.
Zukowski, born in Lębork, Poland on November 23, 2001, made his professional debut for Lechia Gdańsk and has since played 75 games in the Ekstraklasa, scoring a total of seven goals and providing ten assists.
The young winger's impressive form has not gone unnoticed, with Otmar Schork, sporting director of 1. FC Magdeburg, having been in contact with Zukowski for some time. Schork's persistence paid off, as Zukowski signed a deal with the German club on an undisclosed fee.
However, Zukowski's arrival at the Magdeburg club has been delayed due to an injury he sustained during training on September 5, 2025. The metatarsal injury will keep him sidelined for approximately 6 to 8 weeks, and he will initially continue his rehab with 1. FC Magdeburg to ensure a swift recovery.
Despite the setback, Zukowski is excited about the opportunity to wear the FCM jersey. "I am thrilled to join 1. FC Magdeburg," Zukowski said. "I have always admired the club's history and the passion of its fans. I cannot wait to get on the pitch and contribute to the team's success."
Head coach Markus Fiedler is equally pleased with the signing. "Mateusz is a technically strong player who seeks the direct path to the goal," Fiedler said. "He will be a valuable addition to our squad, and I have no doubt that he will quickly become a fan favourite."
Zukowski's signing is not just a boost for the present, but also for the future, as 1. FC Magdeburg looks to build a team capable of challenging for honours in the years to come.
Before joining Slask Wroclaw in July 2023, Zukowski spent time on loan at Chojniczanka and had a successful stint with Glasgow Rangers, where he won the Scottish Cup in 2022. He also won the Polish Cup with Lechia Gdansk in 2019 and the Polish Super Cup in 2020.
Zukowski started his youth career with Pogoń Lębork and Lechia Gdańsk, and has represented Poland at various youth levels, including the U-17, U-19, U-20, and U-21 national teams.
With Zukowski's signing, 1. FC Magdeburg is looking to continue its upward trajectory and challenge for honours in the upcoming season. The young winger's arrival is a clear statement of intent from the club, and fans can look forward to seeing him in action when he is fit and ready to play.
