Federal government supports Kedah's initiative to enhance paddy farming regions for economic expansion
In a significant move, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced a substantial increase in allocations for the state of Kedah, with funds rising from RM7.1 billion in 2021 to RM9.7 billion for the period 2022-2025. This development, decided by the Federal Government and the Cabinet, aims to boost Kedah's economic growth.
The prime minister shared his views at the Madani Rakyat Programme, held at the Baling District Council Sports Complex, and the Cabinet agreed to expand development slightly by reducing the size of paddy granaries in urban areas. This adjustment is to make way for other development projects, including industrial, housing, and commercial ventures.
The prime minister thanked the Kedah Menteri Besar for his good cooperation with the Federal Government. He also emphasised the importance of carrying out these responsibilities with utmost integrity, reminding all parties not to be involved in corrupt practices.
The Kedah State Secretary (SUK), who is currently negotiating to identify new areas for development, is leading these efforts supported by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the Federal Government. The aim is to balance the reduction of paddy granaries in urban areas with Kedah's needs for industry, housing, and commerce development.
The development will occur in the urban areas of Kedah, with the decision to develop several paddy granary areas in Kedah also part of the plan. However, it's important to note that these projects are not limited to paddy granaries but include a wide range of industrial, housing, and commercial ventures.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim mentioned that these allocations are channelled according to the state's needs, with flood mitigation projects being a priority in Kedah. He also highlighted that he had agreed to these projects following the Kedah state government's intention to reduce the size of paddy granaries in urban areas.
The closing ceremony of the Madani Rakyat Programme was attended by notable figures such as Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor. The development plans for Kedah mark a significant step towards economic growth and progress for the state.
