Federal Law Enforcement Crosses Close to Celle Steine, Suffers Damage - Local Police Seek Eyewitness Accounts
On a fateful evening of August 29, 2025, a high-speed train, ICE 775, encountered an unexpected obstacle on the Celle-Hamburg-Hannover railway line. The train was forced to stop unscheduled in Isernhagen and continue to Hannover Hauptbahnhof at reduced speed, due to gravel that had been laid on the tracks, causing damage to the wheel assembly.
As a result of this incident, delays of 80 minutes were experienced by a total of 5 trains. The damaged train had to be taken out of service in Hannover for further inspection and repairs.
The German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) are currently investigating this case of dangerous interference with rail traffic. Witnesses who may have seen possible perpetrators near the railway tracks between the Fuhse Canal and the "Zum Kiebitzsee" street in Celle on Friday evening are encouraged to submit tips to the Federal Police Inspectorate Bremen. Tips can be made by calling 0421/16299-7777, sending an email to [email protected], or via Twitter at @bpol_nord.
The investigation into possible perpetrators is still ongoing. It's important to note that entering railway premises is always life-threatening, as laying stones increases the risk, as they can become uncontrolled projectiles when hit by trains, posing a risk to both the perpetrators and unsuspecting bystanders, or causing significant property damage.
Thankfully, no passengers were injured during the incident.
