Federal law enforcement officers at Hamburg Airport made 2 arrests over the weekend

In an unusual incident at Hamburg Airport on Saturday, a 27-year-old Bulgarian national was apprehended during air security screening. The individual was found to be wanted due to a warrant for his arrest issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bremen since April 2025.

The wanted check revealed that the individual had been wanted for multiple offences, including driving without a license in two cases and forgery of documents. As a result, a fine of 30 daily rates of 60 euros each, totaling 1,800 euros, was imposed on him.

Initially, the individual was unable to raise the money and contacted his mother-in-law living in Bremen by phone, hoping she could help. However, she assured him that she could get the money, but around 6 p.m., she called back and told her son-in-law that she could not get the money after all.

The individual was then taken to the Holstenglacis detention center. He had the option of serving 15 days in detention instead of paying the fine, but it is unclear whether he chose this option. It is also worth noting that there were 20 euros of remaining fine and 123 euros of procedural costs, totaling 5,273 euros to be paid.

The incident is not the first of its kind at Hamburg Airport. In a separate case, a 51-year-old Romanian national was wanted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Augsburg since March 2025. However, it has been clarified that the Public Prosecutor's Office involved in this case is in Bremen, not Augsburg.

While there is no publicly available information about who is the head of the Federal Police Inspectorate Airport Hamburg in 2025, it is clear that such incidents highlight the importance of thorough security checks and the need for individuals to ensure they are compliant with the law.

The individual was able to pay the demanded 1,800 euros and was released from the police measure, allowing him to continue on his journey to his destination, Sibiu (Romania). This incident serves as a reminder to all travellers to ensure they have all the necessary documents and are in compliance with the law to avoid any potential complications during their travels.
