Federal police in NRW have made arrests based on video analysis, following a rape incident. The suspects are now in custody.

In a significant development, a 42-year-old man from Mali has been arrested in connection with a rape incident that occurred at Dortmund Central Station on September 1st.

The harrowing incident unfolded around 20:30 on the same day. A young woman, who had helped the suspect buy a train ticket, reported the incident to the Federal Police station at the station. After smoking a cigarette together, the suspect allegedly made repeated advances towards the victim, which she refused. The suspect, however, disregarded her refusal and committed the heinous act.

Following the report, several public prosecutors' offices launched a search for the suspect's whereabouts. The man was eventually arrested by the Federal Police at Dortmund Central Station in the early hours of September 2nd. He was recognized in a video analysis conducted by the authorities and was found to have a ticket for a flight to Spain that very evening.

Upon his arrest, the suspect was taken into police custody due to the risk of flight. He exercised his right to remain silent after being informed of his rights. A fingerprint scan confirmed his identity beyond doubt.

The Dortmund Police have taken over the case and accompanied the victim to a hospital. The Federal Police have secured all video material and prepared reports for the relevant authorities.

The case will continue to be handled by the responsible Dortmund Police. Further inquiries can be directed to the Federal Police Directorate Sankt Augustin, Federal Police Inspectorate Dortmund, or the Press Office Björn Dahle.
