Federal Police Graduation Ceremony Highlights Intercultural Competence and Service Dog Demonstrations

The Federal Police held a graduation ceremony in Lübeck on August 28, 2025, for 683 students from the 79th academic year. The event, which marked the culmination of three years of intensive training, was filled with academic exchange, cultural encounters, and demonstrations of special skills.

Dr. Dieter Romann, President of the Federal Police, spoke at the ceremony and emphasized the close connection between the history of the Federal Border Guard Service and the Federal Police with the history of the Federal Republic of Germany. Ulf Strandt, President of the Federal Police Academy and Head of the Federal Police Department, spoke about the challenges the officers have faced and their preparedness for their daily work.

Various Federal Police units displayed their special skills, equipment, and deployment means, but the demonstration of service dogs and their handlers received the most attention. The dogs showcased their ability to track down suspects, a skill that was met with awe by the audience.

After the official graduation, the "Blue Light Mile" was opened, marking the beginning of the newly graduated police officers' service at Federal Police stations nationwide. Two students from the graduating class donated stem cells for blood cancer patients, demonstrating the humanitarian spirit of the graduating class.

The conference brought together future leaders from various state police forces, the Federal Criminal Police Office, and the Federal Police to exchange ideas under the motto: "Borders in the mind: Unauthorized entries and intercultural competence in dialogue." Ten police commissioner candidates participated in an academic exchange with Turkey, furthering international cooperation and understanding.

A five-member team organized the first federal student conference in Lübeck, providing a platform for students to share their ideas and experiences. For information about training and studying with the Federal Police, visit: https://www.komm-zur-bundespolizei.de/ausbildung-und-studium/

The Federal Police Orchestra Hannover performed at the graduation ceremony, with musical pieces requested by the academic year group adding a touch of personalisation to the event.
