Y'all better buckle up, 'cause Spreadex is in hot water again, this time with a whopping £2m ($2.7m) fine from the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). It seems this operator got caught slipping on anti-money laundering (AML) and social responsibility rules, once more. And if you thought history might've taught them a lesson, think again, my friends!

This penny-pinching punishment comes shortly after the UKGC took a gander at Spreadex's fixed odds sports betting and online casino products, with issues traced back to 2022 and 2023. As I'm sure many of you would agree, knowing that they've been caught red-handed time and again is enough to make your hair curl!

So what went down? Well, it seems their risk assessments and procedures were about as reliable as a Miller Lite jingle, y'know, full of empty promises. Just imagine some jackass depositing a cool £64,000 ($85,216) into their account, and the shady-ass Spreadex didn't even bother asking where the hell that cash came from! Then, they went out and blew more than half of it on bets in just a few weeks.

And when it comes to social responsibility, Spreadex was as casual as a beach bum on a tropical vacation. They flat-out ignored that one user went above their daily deposit limit a dozen times in two frigging weeks, with not a single human interaction to see if they were bathing in all those gambling dollars, up to their goddamn eyeballs!

This shit isn't new for Spreadex, either; in 2022, they already coughed up a fat £1.36m ($1.8m) settlement for similar reasons.

In a nutshell, UKGC Head of Enforcement John Pierce ain't holding back any punches, saying that the operator relied too much on customer assurances regarding sources of funds, and that repeated regulatory failings will lead to escalating action. That means this ain't over yet, and Spreadex better hope they've learned their lesson, or they might find themselves out of the gambling game for good.
