In a move that has left many customers in despair, the cooperation between The Postbank, Deutsche Bank, and Shell for cash withdrawal at 1,300 locations has come to an end. This change, effective from June 30, has made it increasingly difficult for some customers, especially the elderly and those with mobility issues, to access their cash.

The reasons behind this decision are rooted in the need for modernisation, as cited by the parties involved. However, the closure of many bank branches and the limited availability of cash withdrawal services are making everyday transactions more challenging for those who rely on physical cash.

Many savings banks and other banks have already closed, requiring customers to travel longer distances. This change has left many customers without immediate access to their cash, particularly on Sundays, holidays, and evenings when markets are closed. The problem is further exacerbated during these times as alternative options for cash withdrawal, such as supermarkets and discount stores, often come with a minimum purchase value and a withdrawal limit.

The Postbank offers an alternative for cash withdrawal via a bank app, generating a QR code for use at over 12,000 retailers. However, this service is heavily criticised due to its requirements for smartphone ownership and technology familiarity. For those who do not own a smartphone or are not familiar with the technology, this solution does not provide a viable alternative.

The season for free baths is also ending with the end of free admission. This additional change adds to the inconvenience faced by many customers who are struggling to access their cash. The elimination of cash withdrawal services is causing significant inconvenience for many, and the search for a suitable alternative continues.
