Fire at Troisdorfer Waste Facility: Final Flames Extinguished

A fire that broke out at a waste management company in Troisdorf, Germany, on the night of Wednesday, September 3, 2025, has been extinguished, but investigations into its cause are still ongoing.

The fire, which started in a hall where approximately 200 tons of bulky waste were stored, quickly spread and engulfed the entire hall, which is approximately 3,500 square meters in size. The fire department of the Rhein-Sieg district was in action during the first night of operations, with approximately 200 firefighters on the scene.

Initially, the fire department was unable to enter the building due to potential structural instability. After structural engineers inspected the hall, firefighters were able to gain access. A fire robot was deployed to clear smoke from the burning hall.

The smoke from the fire caused school closures in the Troisdorf district of Friedrich-Wilhelms-HΓΌtte. The recycling center in Troisdorf remains closed to customers. Waste collection in the right bank area of the district was largely disrupted due to the fire.

Despite the disruption, recyclables from the yellow bin were collected on Thursday morning. The remaining collections were made up on Saturday. A thermal imaging camera was used to check the hall, but no abnormalities were found.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are being conducted by the criminal police, who started their investigations during the night of the fire. As of Thursday morning, there are currently no indications that the fire was caused by external factors.

Four RSAG employees were taken to the hospital as a precaution due to suspected smoke inhalation during the extinguishing operations. After medical examination, they were all able to leave the hospital.

The fire operation involved the fire department of the Rhein-Sieg district. On Thursday morning, firefighters were called out again for final extinguishing operations. The hall was checked with a thermal imaging camera, but no abnormalities were found.

Until mid-morning, the fire department had a low supply of water and had to fetch additional water from the nearby Sieg river. The investigation into the cause of the fire at the waste storage facility in Troisdorf is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
