Fire Breaks Out in Multi-residential Building, Resulting in Multiple Rescues
The Hattingen Fire Department was called to a heavily smoked apartment in Blankenstein at 17:32 today. Initial reports suggested that a person might still be inside the apartment, but further investigations revealed that no one was present.
Upon arrival, firefighters found food on the stove had burned, which a neighbour had previously removed. To verify this, firefighters had to enter the apartment in breathing apparatus. They turned off the stove and conducted a final check to ensure the apartment was safe.
Neighbours had checked the apartment via the balcony and found no one inside before the firefighters arrived. The resident who had reported the incident returned to the apartment after the firefighters' check was complete.
The incident at the apartment in Blankenstein had been resolved before an automatic fire alarm went off at a Hattingen clinic at 18:58. Fortunately, no further actions were required at the clinic due to the false alarm.
The Hattingen Fire Department mobilised the full-time fire engine, the Mitte and Nord fire engines, the protective equipment units from Oberbredenscheid and Niederwenigern, the rescue service, the leading emergency doctor, and the operational leader of the rescue service to respond to the apartment incident.
