News Article: Kerpen's Civil Protection Exercise on September 11

On Thursday, September 11, the city of Kerpen will participate in a nationwide civil defense drill. The exercise, scheduled to commence at 11 a.m., aims to familiarise the population with warning means and test emergency systems.

At 11 a.m., a siren signal will be triggered nationwide, with additional warnings in Dormagen being broadcasted via radio, internet, the "NINA" warning app, and the "Cell Broadcast" mobile service. In Horrem, two mobile sirens will be used due to the absence of a stationary one, set up at Heinrich-Meising-StraรŸe / corner Am Hagedorn and Ulmenallee / corner BuchenstraรŸe.

The first warning drive in Horrem will start at 11:15 a.m., with five warning vehicles informing the population via loudspeaker announcements about the ongoing exercise. At 11:10 a.m., an "All clear" signal will be given, and another will follow around 11:30 a.m., indicating the end of the exercise.

Around 11:30 a.m., a second drive-through will occur, and a second round of announcements will follow. A significant portion of the measures will be carried out by volunteer forces of the Dormagen fire department.

All systems are being tested to ensure they function reliably. During the drill, the message will appear directly on mobile phones or tablets without the need for additional apps.

The neighbourhood that will be included in the additional drives changes from year to year. This year's civil protection exercise will pass through the Horrem district at 11:15 AM and 11:30 AM.
