Fire engulfs automotive workshop, causing over half a million euros in destruction

In the heart of the Rems-Murr district, a significant incident unfolded on August 31, 2025, as a car fire erupted close to the town of Gföhl. The Rems-Murr control center swiftly issued a warning about a potentially toxic smoke cloud, advising residents to keep their windows and doors closed for safety.

The dedicated team leader at the fire scene was a member of the local volunteer fire department, Gföhl (FF Gföhl), who responded promptly with 18 emergency personnel and several vehicles, including the HLFA3/4000 and a ladder truck. Their quick action was crucial in containing the fire's initial spread.

The cause of the fire remains a mystery, with investigations ongoing to uncover the exact circumstances that led to the blaze. Despite the unknown origins, firefighters worked tirelessly into the evening to extinguish the flames, their efforts aided by the presence of emergency services and the THW (Technical Assistance for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief).

Tragically, two individuals sustained light injuries during the fire, but they were swiftly treated and released after being attended to by an ambulance. Thankfully, no further injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, in the nearby town of Waiblingen, another automotive workshop suffered extensive damage due to a fire. The flames destroyed the entire workshop building, causing over half a million euros in damage, as reported by police. However, the firefighters' swift response prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent buildings, ensuring that the damage was contained.

The towering smoke plume from the Gföhl fire was visible from afar, a stark reminder of the intensity of the blaze. In total, 119 responders were on the scene, with 27 vehicles and one excavator working together to control the fire and ensure the safety of the community.

While the events of that day were undoubtedly challenging, the quick response and collaborative efforts of the emergency services demonstrate the resilience and determination of the community in the face of adversity. The investigations into the causes of both fires continue, with the hope that similar incidents can be prevented in the future.
