Fire in Bad Pyrmont: Workshop Blaze Causes Significant Damage and Tragedy

A fire that broke out in a workshop adjacent to a residential building in Bad Pyrmont on Friday has resulted in a tragic loss and extensive damage.

The fire department was promptly called to the scene, and approximately 120 emergency services personnel were on hand to combat the blaze. However, despite their best efforts, the damage is estimated to be in the mid-five-digit range.

The fire was almost prevented from spreading to the living area, and fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported among the residents of the adjacent building.

Tragically, a firefighter, aged 25, lost consciousness at a fire station following the fire and later passed away in a hospital. The firefighter was identified as Melvin Lönnecker, a member of the volunteer fire brigade and part of the team responsible for providing clean change clothing at the site.

Initial findings suggest that a technical defect could have caused the fire. However, the fire department has not provided further details about the nature of the defect.

It's important to note that the death of the firefighter does not seem to be related to the operation at the time.

The fire department's investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and more information is expected to be released in due course. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the firefighter, as well as the entire Bad Pyrmont community during this difficult time.
