Firefighters from Bonn, Düsseldorf, Leverkusen, Königswinter, and Ratingen en route to combat forest fires in Spain
German Forest Fire Module Continues to Battle Wildfires in Spain
The German Forest Fire Module is currently on its third day of deployment in Aldeanueva de Camino, Spain, as efforts continue to control the spreading wildfires in the regions of Galicia and Castile and León.
Despite the high temperatures, around 30°C, and solar intensity, the tank fire engines brought along have shown high deployment value, navigating through steep, hilly terrain to reach the fire-affected areas. Several thousand square meters have been controlled and treated with hand tools and extinguishing water.
The goal of the German forces is to control smoldering spots in the heated and burned soil. However, despite the progress made, the fires in these regions are still spreading strongly, with smoke plumes in the undergrowth indicating fires on the ground. There is no talk of a relaxation of the forest fire situation in the regions of Galicia and Castile and León.
The deployment of the German Forest Fire Module is expected to end at the beginning of the following week, after which the return journey to Germany will take place. The field camp, which was established in Aldeanueva de Camino, has started and was largely completed by evening.
On Saturday morning, the German wildfire module will be relocated to Puebla de Sanabria in the province of Castile and León to support firefighting there. The relocation will cover approximately 300 km of driving distance. The module will then support a forest fire in the northern area of the forest, where intensity is highest.
