On June 27, 2025, a joint emergency response drill was conducted by the fire departments of Nienhagen and Wathlingen at Nienhagen's primary school. The drill, initiated under the call "Fire 2 - Lives at Risk," aimed to simulate a real-life emergency situation and test the readiness and efficiency of the firefighting teams.

Upon arrival, a fire was found in part of the school. The Fire Department of the Wathlingen Collective Municipality, along with other emergency personnel, swiftly sprang into action. In total, 28 emergency personnel responded to the scene.

During the drill, various rescue operations were initiated. Some people were unable to evacuate on their own, and a student had to be rescued from a roof. One injured person was rescued using a Stokes basket and the cherry picker through a window. Three people were rescued using "escape hoods." Portable ladders, a cherry picker, and breathing apparatus were utilised for the rescue operations.

The fire was successfully extinguished after more than an hour, and all persons were rescued. In total, 12 people were rescued during the drill.

The Wathlingen Collective Municipality's Fire Department provided resources for the drill, but no specific details about their involvement were given. The search results do not provide information about the official contact person from the fire brigade association of the Wathlinger community for inquiries related to the joint training exercise in Nienhagen on June 27, 2025.
