Firefighters successfully extract a homeowner and their pet dog during a rescue operation.

On Sunday evening, September 7, a significant incident unfolded in the street "Auf dem Sauerfeld" in Menden, Germany. A fire broke out in a single-family home, causing multiple injuries from smoke inhalation and extensive property damage.

The exact cause of the fire remains a mystery, with no specific person or institution being named as responsible for the blaze. The fire department was called to the scene at approximately 6 p.m., and the incident required a major operation to contain and extinguish the flames.

Upon arrival, four ambulances from Menden, Hemer, Iserlohn, and Fröndenberg were on site to provide medical care. Two residents of the affected house were rescued from the first floor, and a dog was also saved from the burning building. Tragically, two residents suffered severe smoke inhalation and were taken to nearby hospitals.

To aid in the firefighting efforts, a drone was used to monitor the scene from the air and pinpoint any remaining hotspots. An additional unit from the Mitte fire station was called in during the operation to provide more breathing apparatus carriers. As the fire continued to rage, the fire department escalated the incident to a "developing fire," resulting in additional units from Schwitten and Halingen being called in to assist.

After the roof was largely extinguished, the fire department opened up the roof area using a turntable ladder. The work continued into the evening hours, with the fire department working tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.

A neighbor who suffered minor smoke inhalation was also taken to the hospital. The extent of the property damage is still unknown, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
