Flame engulfs residence in Wattenscheid

A residential fire broke out on Westenfelder Straße in Bochum at 15:10 on Friday afternoon. The first responders from the Wattenscheid fire station arrived shortly after the call, with thick smoke billowing from the windows of the top-floor apartment.

Fortunately, all residents had evacuated the building safely before the firefighters arrived. However, the rooms in the apartment were severely damaged by fire and smoke and are now uninhabitable. The residents are still temporarily staying with neighbours after the fire.

The fire department's focus during the operation was on extinguishing the blaze in the apartment. The operation on Westenfelder Straße was completed after approximately an hour.

The police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing, and the public is asked to avoid speculation until more information is available.

Neighbours were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector alarm and smoke smell in the stairway. The neighbours promptly called the Bochum Fire Department, who responded quickly and efficiently.
