A fire broke out at a restaurant on Castroper Street in Bochum on Monday morning, causing a significant response from the local fire department. According to a report by Simon Heußen, published on the Bochum Fire Department's website, nearly 40 emergency personnel were on site to tackle the blaze.

The firefighters found thick, black smoke both from the restaurant's entrance and an annex on the back of the building. The source of the fire was quickly located and extinguished using a hose reel.

Castroper Street was fully closed between the 1st Parallel Street and Josephinenstraße throughout the entire operation. The closure lasted over an hour due to the fire and the subsequent clean-up efforts.

Passersby reported heavy smoke coming from the ground floor of a three-story building, prompting a swift response from the professional fire department, supported by the volunteer fire department's fire unit in Altenbochum.

Another resident was found by the firefighters in a slightly smoky apartment and was taken to the hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. A paramedic examined all evacuated residents.

The deployment began at 09:30 and ended at 11:00. After the fire was extinguished, high-performance fans were used to clear the building of smoke.

Several residents, including a family with a toddler and an infant, evacuated the building on their own. The infant was taken to the hospital for further examination as a precaution.

The fire caused disruptions to Bogestra's buses and trains. The two turntable ladders used during the operation caused the tram's overhead line to be switched off and earthed.
