Flooded motorway submerged in diesel during complete shutdown
In the early hours of Saturday, 30th August 2025, a significant accident occurred on the A4 motorway near Hainichen, Mittelsachsen. The incident involved a semi-trailer truck that veered off the road, collided with the guardrail, and overturned, coming to rest across the roadway.
The driver, a 55-year-old individual, remained uninjured in the accident. However, the recovery operation and cleaning of the roadway are proving difficult due to the leakage of diesel and engine oil from the overturned truck.
Special forces, including police special units, fire brigades, and hazardous material teams, have been deployed for the rescue and cleanup operations at the accident site. The highway is expected to be reopened later today once clearance is completed, but the exact time of reopening for the A4 towards Erfurt remains uncertain.
Due to the blockade, drivers in the Mittelsachsen area should expect severe traffic disruptions. The road closure in the western direction at the height of the town of Hainichen is still in effect, and the A4 motorway in the direction of Erfurt is expected to remain fully blocked until around midday.
Operating materials need to be bound and removed from the roadway before the blockade can be lifted. The recovery operation of the overturned semi-trailer truck is still ongoing.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes if possible. We will provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay safe on the roads.
