Flotilla sailing to Gaza makes a return to Barcelona due to bad weather conditions at sea

The Global Sumud Flotilla, an organization composed of pro-Palestinian activists, embarked on a mission to break Israel's naval blockade and deliver much-needed food and humanitarian supplies to the enclave of Gaza. The aid flotilla set sail from Barcelona on Sunday, but was forced to return to port due to stormy weather.

The flotilla, which includes climate activist Greta Thunberg and Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham, conducted a sea trial before the departure. However, with winds reaching up to around 35 mph (56 kph), the organizers decided to return to port to avoid complications with smaller boats.

The enclave of Gaza has been devastated by nearly two years of war, and the Red Cross has stated that a mass evacuation of Gaza City is impossible. The aid flotilla aimed to alleviate some of the suffering in Gaza, but Israel has described previous attempts to break the naval blockade as propaganda stunts in support of Hamas.

Israel imposed the naval blockade in 2007, citing the need to prevent weapons from being smuggled to the Hamas Palestinian militant group. However, the blockade has been criticized for causing severe hardship for the people of Gaza.

The Global Sumud Flotilla Mission did not announce a new departure date, but the organizers remain committed to delivering aid to the people of Gaza. The flotilla consists of several dozen boats and includes a diverse group of activists from around the world.

While the mission was not successful in reaching Gaza this time, the Global Sumud Flotilla continues to draw attention to the plight of the people of Gaza and the need for an end to the naval blockade. The organization will continue to work towards delivering aid and support to the people of Gaza in any way they can.
