Food delivery service Zomato intends to rebrand as 'Eternal' as part of a daring expansion strategy

In a significant move, Indian food delivery giant Zomato has announced its decision to rebrand as "Eternal Ltd." This rebranding aims to ensure the brand's relevance and adaptability for the future, as the company expands its services beyond food delivery.

The rebranding move aligns with a trend seen among tech giants, such as Facebook's transition to Meta and Google's reorganization under Alphabet. Eternal Ltd. is building an ecosystem that caters to multiple consumer needs, including quick-commerce and grocery segments through subsidiaries like Blinkit Foods.

While the official transition timeline is yet to be announced, if approved, Zomato's corporate website will transition from Zomato.com to Eternal.com, and its stock ticker will change from ZOMATO to ETERNAL. Regular Zomato users will continue to use the Zomato app for food delivery, with Eternal Ltd. managing the company's various business verticals.

Deepinder Goyal, Zomato's founder and CEO, emphasized that the shift represents the company's long-term vision. The rebranding decision is subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.

Despite the name change at the corporate level, the company reassured customers that the Zomato brand will continue to exist as the face of its food delivery business. The rebranding of Zomato to Eternal Ltd. is expected to position the company as a diversified digital services provider, rather than just a food delivery business.

Shareholders and consumers will be awaiting further information regarding the transition. The planned rebranding of Eternal Ltd, formerly known as Zomato Limited, aims to position the company as a multi-vertical consumer internet firm, expanding into new growth opportunities and potentially enhancing shareholder value by capturing emerging market trends beyond traditional food delivery.
