Football quarterback Alejado's participation in Saturday's game will depend on the final decision made on game day.

In the world of college football, the University of Hawaii (UH) is preparing for their upcoming contest against Sam Houston, with a question mark hanging over their starting quarterback, Micah Alejado.

Alejado, who has never missed a start due to an injury in his career, sustained a deep bruise to his right foot during the team's opening game against Stanford on August 23. The injury flared up again during the third quarter of the game against Arizona, forcing him to exit the match. Despite this, he started against Arizona, completing 18 of 31 passes for 157 yards, but his usual elusiveness seemed to be absent.

In his absence, backup quarterback Luke Weaver has been stepping up. Weaver, who had to adjust from the spread attack at Modesto College to the Warriors' run-and-shoot base, worked exclusively with UH's first-team offense for the second Tuesday practice in a row.

During the scrimmage-like drills, where the No. 2 offense goes against the defensive starters, Weaver showed promising signs. He shoveled to running back Landon Sims on a scramble drill and connected on a deep pass (20 yards from the line of scrimmage) to Tama Uiliata. However, his performance was not without its hiccups. Weaver lost a fumble and was intercepted twice in the game against the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, Dermaricus "MarMar" Davis, who transferred from UCLA last month, practiced against the top defense on Tuesday. Davis, who has been making progress in grasping the offense and understanding the reads, could potentially provide a boost to the team if Alejado is unable to play.

Head coach Timmy Chang announced Alejado's availability for Saturday's contest as a "game-time decision." Alejado took all the snaps in team drills last Thursday at the Ching Complex and the following day's practice at Mountain View High in Tucson, fitted for a special air brace.

Coach Chang has expressed trust in Weaver, citing his background of winning football as a reason for his confidence in the backup quarterback. Weaver was 6-for-12 when being blitzed in the game against the Wildcats, a statistic that suggests he can handle pressure situations.

As the team prepares for the Sam Houston game, the focus remains on Alejado's recovery. With Weaver showing signs of promise, the UH football team seems to be in capable hands, regardless of who takes the field on Saturday.
