Dallas Cowboys Finalize Contract Extension for Star Cornerback DaRon Bland Ahead of Season Opener

The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a 4-year, $92 million contract extension with cornerback DaRon Bland, just four days before their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Bland, who is going into his fourth season in the league, will earn an average annual salary of $23 million, making him the sixth-highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. The deal includes a guaranteed $50 million.

In 2023, Bland had an exceptional season, recording nine interceptions for 209 yards and five pick-sixes. His impressive performance earned him both a Pro Bowl and an All-Pro nod. However, in 2024, he missed the first 10 games due to injury and did not deliver any interceptions in the seven games he played after his return.

The negotiations for the contract extension were handled by the Dallas Cowboys organization itself. The team announced the agreement publicly on August 31, 2025.

The Cowboys' decision to extend Bland's contract comes after the departure of linebacker Micah Parsons, who agreed to a four-year, $188 million contract with the Green Bay Packers following a contract dispute. The Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers.

With the extension, Bland joins the list of young talent that the Cowboys have been investing in. The team also signed fourth-year tight end Jake Ferguson to a 4-year, $52 million contract over the summer.

Coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed hope that guard Tyler Smith could be the next player to receive a contract extension.

Bland's extension was finalized on a date that is four days before the specified season opener against the Eagles, giving him ample time to prepare for the upcoming season. The Cowboys will be hoping that Bland can continue his impressive form and help lead the team to success in the 2025 season.
