Footballer Asizat Oshoala joins Al-Hilal in the Saudi women's league, moving from Bay FC in a transfer.
In a significant move for women's football, Bay FC's star forward Asisat Oshoala has transferred to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Women's Premier League. The 30-year-old Nigerian international, who spent a successful year with Bay FC, is set to make her mark in the Middle East.
Oshoala, a six-time African Player of the Year, joined Bay FC ahead of their inaugural season in 2024. In her first year with the San Francisco Bay Area-based team, she scored a team-high seven goals. One of her most memorable moments with Bay FC was scoring the first goal for the franchise on March 17, 2024, in the 17th minute of a match against Angel City.
Before her stint with Bay FC, Oshoala played for Barcelona, where she won two Women's Champions League titles. Her impressive career also includes being a part of the Nigerian team that won its 10th Africa Cup of Nations title in July.
Matt Patter, Bay's sporting director, praised Oshoala for her impact on the club and her professionalism. He said, "Asisat has been a fantastic addition to our team. Her skill, dedication, and leadership have been invaluable. We wish her all the best in her new venture."
Oshoala's move to Al-Hilal also sees her joining fellow Nigerian players Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega at the club. The terms of her two-year contract with Al-Hilal were not disclosed.
