Foreign Travel Comparison: Is it true that Manmohan Singh made more international trips than Narendra Modi?

In a recent statement, BJP President Amit Shah claimed that Manmohan Singh made more foreign trips during his tenure as Prime Minister compared to Narendra Modi. However, a fact-check based on data from the Ministry of External Affairs' website reveals a different story.

During his first three years in office, Narendra Modi made a total of 54 foreign trips, spanning a total of 132 days. This is significantly more than Manmohan Singh, who served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and made a total of 80 foreign trips over his entire tenure, lasting a total of 303 days.

In the first three years of Modi's tenure, each foreign trip lasted on average around 3.8 days. In contrast, during Manmohan Singh's tenure, the average duration of each foreign trip was not specified.

The year with the most foreign trips for Modi was 2016, when he made 18 trips, lasting a total of 18 days. In the same year, Manmohan Singh made no foreign trips.

Modi also made at least 5 foreign trips in every year of his tenure except in 2012 and 2014. In 2014, he made only one foreign trip before demitting office, lasting 32 days. In contrast, Manmohan Singh made at least 10 foreign trips in each of the years 2005, 2009, 2011, and 2013.

Interestingly, in his first three years, Modi made more foreign trips than Manmohan Singh made during either his entire first term or his entire second term as Prime Minister. Modi's foreign trips in 2015 lasted 64 days, making it the year with the second-highest number of foreign trips, with 27 trips.

Manmohan Singh made slightly more foreign trips in his second term compared to his first term. However, the total number of days spent on foreign trips was not significantly different between the two terms.

In conclusion, while Manmohan Singh made more foreign trips during his entire tenure as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi made significantly more foreign trips in his first three years as Prime Minister of India compared to Manmohan Singh during the same period.
