Former editor of The Kress, Bülend Ürük, now serves as the main communicator for Funke
New Appointment at Funke Media Group: Uruk Takes Over as Head of Corporate Communications
In a significant move, Funke Media Group has appointed Uruk as the new head of corporate communications. Uruk, who was previously an editor at Funke 15 years ago, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having combined journalistic expertise with an excellent network in politics and business.
Uruk's career in political communication began after he left the specialist medium "kress" in 2019, following a tenure of over seven years. Before that, he served as spokesperson of the parliamentary group leader and head of communication of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. Uruk also held the position of deputy spokesperson of the CDU Germany and spokesperson of the General Secretary.
Most recently, Uruk's focus was on strategic consulting and positioning of personalities and companies. His appointment to the Executive Board of Funke Media Group is a testament to his success in these areas.
Tobias Korenke, the former head of corporate communications, will remain connected to the media group through his involvement in the initiative Yeswecan! Korenke held the position since 2013, with a break from 2019 to 2021.
Funke Media Group has been active in the acquisition market recently. They completed the 100% acquisition of the platform "Chefkoch" and also acquired the Gruner+Jahr titles "Brigitte", "Eltern" and "Gala" from RTL Germany.
However, the appointment of Uruk comes amidst plans to cut around 70 jobs as part of the creation of a regional media central desk. This move is aimed at streamlining the group's operations and improving efficiency.
Julia Becker, publisher at Funke, considers Uruk to be one of the most prominent communicators in Germany. With his extensive experience in both journalism and politics, Uruk is well-positioned to lead Funke's corporate communications department.
The Executive Board of Funke Media Group currently includes Simone Kasik (Chief Financial Officer), Christoph Rueth (Regional Media), Stephan Thurm (Digital Division) and Jesper Doub (National Brands). With Uruk's addition, the board is set to further strengthen Funke's position in the media industry.
