Four individuals charged with preschool violence face severe sentencing, according to prosecutors.
In Taitung County, four individuals, including two teachers, have been indicted for physically assaulting six children in a special preschool education class. The indicted teachers are surnamed Kao and Sung, while the identities of Huang and Chiu remain undisclosed.
The prosecutor, Lin Ching-jung, directed a task force with the Taitung County Police Department to review surveillance camera footage from the school. The review allegedly showed physical violence against the young students, with one act of violence caught on camera being the pushing of a student's head against a wall.
Both Kao and Sung are seeking prison sentences. Kao is seeking a sentence of six years and 10 months, while Sung is seeking a sentence of four years. In addition to the prison sentences, the Taitung County Government has imposed penalties on both teachers. Kao was fined NT$600,000 and permanently barred from working in the childcare services industry. Sung was fined an additional NT$50,000 for failing to report another teacher's abuse, bringing the total penalty to NT$290,000. Sung was also dismissed and banned from working in childcare services for three years.
Sung faces an additional charge of document forgery. The indictments are related to incidents that occurred at an elementary school in Taitung County in January and involve contraventions of Article 286, Article 112, and Article 304 of the Criminal Code, as well as the Protection of Children and Youths Welfare and Rights Act (ๅ ็ซฅๅๅฐๅนด็ฆๅฉ่ๆฌ็ไฟ้ๆณ).
No information is currently available about the outcome of the review of the surveillance footage or the current status of the case. The prosecution's investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
