Four individuals sustain injuries; elderly individual becomes entangled in a mishap
In a tragic incident that took place on Thursday afternoon, a 69-year-old man from Vienna was involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of the B66 with the Neustifterweg in Riegersburg.
The accident involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions, resulting in a side-on collision. The 69-year-old man, who was entering the B66 without stopping, was trapped in his vehicle.
Emergency services, including the fire departments of St. Kind, Walkersdorf, and Breitenfeld, were called to the scene to free the 69-year-old driver. He was airlifted to the LKH Graz hospital with serious injuries.
Unfortunately, his 73-year-old wife, who was traveling with him, also sustained injuries in the accident. She was taken to the LKH Feldbach for treatment.
The other vehicle involved was driven by a 24-year-old man, who, along with his 45-year-old father, sustained minor injuries. They were taken to a hospital for medical attention. An alcohol test on the 24-year-old was negative.
The accident caused a local detour to be put in place during the accident cleanup, which lasted approximately two hours. The accident site was closed to ensure the safety of other road users.
The 69-year-old man who was taken at the accident scene and transported to the hospital in Graz is not explicitly identified in the available sources. However, a 69-year-old motorcyclist injured in a separate accident was transported to a hospital in Klagenfurt, not Graz. The report mentioning a driver transported to Graz does not specify identity.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder to always adhere to traffic rules and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users. Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident.
