Four smoke shops in Seneca Falls have been shut down following the confiscation of drugs and weapons.
In a coordinated effort to combat the illicit cannabis market, the Seneca Falls Police Department, Seneca County Sheriff's Office, Waterloo Village Police Department, and the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) led a raid on four tobacco shops in Seneca Falls.
The targeted shops, Hemp Vibes, Dream Falls Convenience, Smokers N. Munch, and Rick's VIP, were seized for selling illegal cannabis and vape products without state approval. This enforcement action is part of a broader statewide crackdown on the illegal cannabis market.
The OCM, which aims to protect consumers and licensed cannabis retailers, initiated the Seneca Falls investigation following community complaints. As of mid-August, there are 453 licensed dispensaries operating across New York State.
Felicia A.B. Reid, Acting Executive Director of OCM, emphasised the importance of community voices in fighting the illicit market. She stated, "Community voices are essential in our fight against the illicit market."
So far in 2025, the OCM has conducted around 2,000 inspections and issued 488 sealing orders to shut down unlicensed businesses. The actions have led to the seizure of more than 29,000 pounds of illegal cannabis, valued at over $125 million.
More than 70 pounds of illicit cannabis products were recovered, including flower, concentrates, and edibles. One of the locations had an illegally modified firearm, and additional charges are expected.
Residents can report suspected illegal cannabis activity at cannabis.ny.gov/report-an-incident. The search results do not provide information about which office led the search of the four Seneca Falls tobacco shops on Thursday.
OCM leaders emphasise their goal to protect both consumers and licensed cannabis retailers. They aim to ensure only tested and regulated products enter the market. This enforcement action serves as a reminder of their commitment to maintaining a safe and legal cannabis market in New York State.
