Franklin Templeton Launches Immediate Yield for Digital Asset Tokens
The financial services giant, Franklin Templeton, has taken a significant step forward in digital asset innovation with the introduction of the Intraday Yield feature on its Benji Technology Platform.
This new feature, which is made possible by the composability inherent in blockchain systems, allows for the accurate accrual and payout of earnings based on the exact duration of asset ownership, even for transfers within the same day. This real-time earnings model represents a departure from the conventional system where yield is calculated only on an end-of-day basis.
The Intraday Yield feature extends its applicability to weekends and holidays, contrasting with traditional investment structures. If an investor holds a tokenized asset for only part of a day, they will now receive compensation for that specific holding time. This feature also supports daily payouts, contrasting with the more common monthly distribution schedules used in traditional investment structures.
Franklin Templeton's Intraday Yield feature is a testament to the company's commitment to leveraging blockchain technology to enhance traditional investment mechanisms. The company has been exploring blockchain applications since 2017 and has built its own infrastructure, known as the Benji Technology Platform.
The Benji Platform, which powers Franklin Templeton's own digital offerings, also serves as a white-label solution for institutional partners. It has been instrumental in several landmark projects in the regulated tokenized fund space, including the introduction of the first U.S.-registered blockchain mutual fund in 2021 and the first tokenized UCITS fund in Luxembourg in 2024.
The Benji Platform's global expansion is evident in the development of a retail-focused tokenized fund in Singapore. Currently, Franklin Templeton's Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund, or BENJI, holds the second-largest position as a tokenized U.S. Treasury fund globally, with $750 million in assets under management.
Franklin Templeton's implementation of the Intraday Yield feature reinforces its position at the forefront of digital asset innovation within the financial services industry. The new feature demonstrates how blockchain's precision and automation can enhance traditional investment mechanisms, offering a more flexible and efficient investment experience for investors.
