Obviant Secures $7.1 Million in Seed Funding to Revolutionize Defense Procurement

Obviant, a groundbreaking data intelligence platform, has announced the successful completion of a $7.1 million seed funding round. Led by Shield Capital, the round also saw participation from Valor Equity Partners, Revolt Ventures, and several other esteemed investors.

Michael Brown, a Partner at Shield Capital and former Director of the DoD's Defense Innovation Unit, expressed his enthusiasm for Obviant's solution, stating that it unlocks a better understanding of spending on defense mission capabilities and new technologies.

Brendan Karp, Co-founder and CEO of Obviant, shared his vision for the company, stating that Obviant's mission is to provide a source of truth and underlying trends for technology, policy, and investment, enabling movements at the speed of relevance.

The funding will be utilised to broaden Obviant's customer base, expand the team, and advance the AI capabilities of its platform. The platform, which currently provides a comprehensive and coherent view of acquisition, contracting, and budgeting information across the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), aims to bring real-time transparency and context to the defense procurement ecosystem.

Obviant's platform ingests and unifies data from thousands of sources, including program documents, defense budget justification books, and congressional reports. This data can be aggregated by mission or program, such as contested logistics or the Golden Dome, to highlight opportunities.

By combining open-source intelligence (OSINT) and customers' data with AI-driven context and reasoning, Obviant transforms defense procurement, moving away from guesswork or hand-built spreadsheets. The platform helps defense tech firms align capabilities with sources of funding, supplies investors with diligence-ready analysis and market sizing, and assists DoD offices in visualizing portfolios and streamlining technology transitions.

Obviant's customer base includes high-growth defense startups, primes, global investment firms, defense advisory firms, think tanks, and multiple government agencies. The platform is gaining momentum as the defense sector expands to include more companies supplying emerging technologies.

With this funding, Obviant aims to help companies, investors, and government leaders make more informed decisions across the defense sector. The platform provides real-time, actionable data, enabling stakeholders to stay ahead of the curve and make strategic decisions that drive growth and innovation.

In summary, Obviant's seed funding round marks a significant step forward in the company's mission to revolutionise defense procurement. With its unique approach to data intelligence, Obviant is poised to become a crucial partner for companies, investors, and government agencies alike in the rapidly evolving defense sector.
