Fusing Innovation: "Star Chef Meets High-Tech Cooking in Robot Kitchen"
Robot Cafeteria Opens at TU Dresden, Focusing on Interdisciplinary Research
The "CeTIBAR" (Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop Robot Cafeteria) is more than just a robot cafeteria. Located in the Barkhausen Building of Dresden University of Technology (TUD), this innovative space is dedicated to exploration and interdisciplinary research into the use of robots in the workplace and learning environments.
The grand opening of the CeTIBAR was attended by high-ranking guests, including Saxon Minister President Michael Kretschmer, Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow, and TU Dresden's Rector, Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger. The event showcased the capabilities of collaborative robots, or "cobots," in the culinary field.
Star chef Benjamin Biedlingmaier worked alongside these robots, with the cobots handling tasks like plating, serving, and decorating. Biedlingmaier emphasized that the aim is not to replace the chef but to free up space for creativity. The goal of the collaboration is to support human labor by taking over repetitive tasks.
Prof. Staudinger, the leader of TU Dresden relevant to the research of the Excellence Cluster "Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop," highlighted the university's role as an innovator in human-machine interaction. The researches conducted by TUD in the field of human-machine interaction are of fundamental importance for the technically supported social participation of all.
The CeTI, of which the CeTIBAR is a part, is a unique research lab focusing on robotics and the future of the tactile internet. Doreen BΓΆttcher, science communicator at the CeTI Excellence Cluster, highlighted the potential for fostering dialogue and understanding for new technologies at the CeTIBAR's location in the heart of TUD's main campus.
The researches are not only crucial for the technical development but also for the economic development of Dresden and Saxony. The CeTIBAR aims to inspire the next generation of innovators through interactive exhibits, workshops, and lectures. The CeTIBAR is not just a robot cafeteria; it's a hub for innovation, research, and learning.
