Future Vision 2025: ZF showcases trailer innovation for enhanced efficiency and safety

ZF Showcases Innovations at Nufam 2025

At the Nufam 2025 trade fair in Karlsruhe, ZF's Commercial Vehicle Solutions division is presenting a range of new systems with a focus on decarbonization, safety, and digital applications. One of the key innovations on display is the intelligent electronic braking system, iEBS.

iEBS combines anti-lock and electronic braking technologies and is part of the global "Intelligent Braking Platform." The system is suitable for various trailer types and is available in Basic, Standard, and Premium versions, for both conventional and air-sprung systems. ZF highlights the benefits of iEBS, including fast installation, simplified maintenance, and leaner inventory that make workshop and fleet operations more efficient.

In addition to iEBS, ZF is introducing an electrification program for semi-trailers called TrailTrax. TrailTrax combines a 210-kilowatt AxTrax 2 e-axle, an electronic braking system, and a battery box with control unit. This technology, which has already been showcased by leading trailer manufacturers such as Kässbohrer and Krone, has the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40% with a plug-in version.

ZF is also presenting the Software Update Management System (SUMS), a digital solution for trailer manufacturers. The SUMS system is intended to ensure functional safety and cybersecurity throughout a vehicle's entire lifecycle. ZF's SUMS Service Suite is designed to help manufacturers comply with international regulation UNECE R156 regarding software update management.

As part of the event, ZF is hosting roundtable discussions with manufacturers and fleet operators to discuss current topics in the trailer sector. These discussions are centred around topics related to efficiency and protection in transport.

The SUMS system is being showcased at Hall 1, Stand 125. Furthermore, ZF is also presenting software updates for trailers at the event.

In summary, ZF's presence at Nufam 2025 underscores the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability in the transport industry. With the introduction of iEBS, TrailTrax, and the SUMS system, ZF is positioning itself as a leader in the development of intelligent braking, electrification, and digital solutions for trailers.
