GamCare's Helpline Sees Record Demand, Expands Services

GamCare's National Gambling Helpline, the leading service for those affected by gambling-related harm, received a record number of calls and online chats in 2023-24. The charity also expanded its education and training efforts significantly.

The helpline handled 55,228 interactions, with 41,070 classified as supportive interventions, making up 74% of the total. This surge in demand reflects the growing need for support, as more people seek help for gambling-related issues.

GamCare's Chair for the year, whose name is not specified, oversaw a successful year for the charity. The helpline referred 57% of individuals who enrolled in treatment services, demonstrating its effectiveness in connecting people with vital support.

In the year to April 2024, GamCare delivered over 9,100 free treatment sessions, with an average wait time of just 2.1 days. This quick access to treatment is crucial for those seeking help.

GamCare also expanded its prevention efforts. It trained 10,344 professionals to spot early signs of gambling-related problems among women and young people, a 25% increase from the previous year. Moreover, the charity educated 53,324 young people about gambling-related harms, a significant rise from the previous year.

GamCare's National Gambling Helpline continues to be a vital lifeline for those affected by gambling-related harm. With record numbers seeking help and the charity expanding its prevention and treatment efforts, the future looks promising in tackling this growing issue.
