Game Landmaking an Appearance at Gamescom 2025
Baden-Württemberg, Germany, is making a significant presence at Gamescom 2025, Europe's largest gaming trade fair. The focus of the Baden-Württemberg stand is on "Games & Virtual Worlds Made in Baden-Württemberg".
Nine prominent studios from the region are presenting their latest games and developments at the event. These studios are part of a thriving games industry in Baden-Württemberg, which boasts around 150 companies with over 1,400 employees.
The Baden-Württemberg government is committed to supporting innovation in the games industry. The state is providing 1.2 million euros for game funding in Baden-Württemberg as part of "Games BW". This funding aims to strengthen the digital audiovisual sector and the production and development location of games in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and Europe.
Games BW has been supporting video and digital games in Baden-Württemberg since 2020. The promotional goal for the games industry is to specifically promote its innovative capacity as a future sector and to fully exploit the potential of games and virtual realities for the economy and society.
For the first time, outstanding indie games from the region are being presented at the Indie Arena Booth in the public area. This is a testament to the diverse and innovative creative economy that the games industry in Baden-Württemberg represents.
The funding offered by Games BW includes financial funding programs, further training, start-up programs, and networking and mediation offers for the games industry. The promotion of the games industry in Baden-Württemberg has been funded by Games BW since 2020, with a budget of 3.8 million euros allocated for the year 2025.
The Games BW Funding and funding strategy of the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg (MFG) are used to implement this promotional goal. All necessary information and application forms can be found on the MFG Website.
The funding aims to retain game developers in the state, promote the founding of new game studios, and attract game studios from within and outside the country to settle in Baden-Württemberg. The software/games industry is the largest sub-sector of the cultural and creative economy in Baden-Württemberg with a turnover volume of around 16.57 billion euros and a growth rate of around twelve percent compared to the previous year.
Virtual worlds offer new possibilities for interactive gaming experiences, social networking, and innovative business models. The funding promotes a healthy and sustainable games ecosystem, ensuring that the industry continues to grow and thrive in Baden-Württemberg.
