Garage fire in Dortmund-Hostedde wreaks havoc, consuming multiple vehicles
Fire in Tettenbachstraße Quickly Contained by Dortmund Fire Department
On the evening of August 25, 2025, the Dortmund Fire Department responded to a call at 22:52 regarding a fire in Tettenbachstraße. The initial fire began in a car parked in a garage and rapidly spread to neighbouring garages and an adjacent workshop building, affecting a total of five structures.
Upon arrival, the incident commander reported "fire out" at 00:30. However, new emergency calls were received at around 04:21, regarding a re-ignition of one of the involved vehicles. The basic protection unit from Fire Station 6 (Scharnhorst) responded and confirmed the situation on site.
To prevent the fire from spreading to residential buildings, a firewall was established. Due to the high fuel load and the rapid spread of the fire, multiple teams in breathing apparatus were required. A foam blanket was laid down to extinguish the flames and prevent re-ignition.
Thermal imaging cameras were used to thoroughly inspect the scene before the last crews left at 01:59. Extensive follow-up checks continued into the early morning hours. The re-ignition was limited to the affected car, and the fire was quickly brought under control.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is the subject of police investigations. For further inquiries, please contact: Fire Department Dortmund Press Office, Benjamin Ewald, Telephone: 0231/8455000, Email: [email protected], Web: https://dortmund.de/feuerwehr.
The second operation was completed at 05:48. Alongside the incident command, crews from Fire Stations 3 (Neuasseln), 6 (Scharnhorst), and 2 (Eving), the voluntary fire brigade's Löschzug 26 (Lanstrop), and the rescue service were involved in the second operation. A turntable ladder was used to target any remaining hotspots.
The name of the chief fire officer who led the firefighting in Tettenbachstraße on August 25, 2025, is not publicly available at this time. The Dortmund Fire Department demonstrated their quick response and effective action in containing the fire, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.
