Gathering for Lena Ludwig at the entrance hall
In the grand setting of the Aschaffenburg town hall on August 28, 2020, a special reception was held to honour the impressive achievements of local swimmer Lena Ludwig.
Mayor Jürgen Herzing, along with Karlheinz Stegmann, the 1st Chairman of the City Sports Association, presided over the event. Lena was praised for her outstanding performance at the Junior Swimming World Championships in Otopeni, Romania, where she competed in eight events and secured two silver medals.
Lena placed 8th in the 50m breaststroke event, and her success is seen as a testament to the excellent youth work of the SSKC Poseidon swimming club. The interest in swimming training is so high that the club cannot accept new children at the moment, according to Mayor Herzing.
The Mayor also mentioned that before the COVID-19 pandemic, the city had already considered building a 25-meter pool. Recognising the club's need for a larger facility, he promised to discuss the issue of building a 50-meter training pool in the responsible committee.
The city council member dealing with the construction of a 50-meter swimming pool is Dr. Thomas Steiner, who is involved in the planning and modernization efforts for a year-round swimming facility as part of the SPD's concept in Sulzbach-Rosenberg.
Lena's family, youth coach Svenja Lotz, and the head of the sports department, Helmut Maier, were also in attendance to celebrate her accomplishments. Mayor Herzing presented a gift and a donation for the youth work of the SSKC Poseidon swimming department during his speech.
The reception was a fitting tribute to Lena's dedication and hard work, and it underscored the city's commitment to supporting its talented young athletes. The SSKC Poseidon swimming club, and indeed the city of Aschaffenburg, can be proud of their rising star.
