Genoa suffers defeat as Juventus clinches victory, courtesy of Vlahovic scoring off the substitutes' bench
In a closely contested Serie A clash, Juventus emerged victorious against Genoa, thanks to a crucial goal from their new signing, Dusan Vlahovic.
The game began with Genoa taking the initiative, as they managed the first effort on target in the 26th minute. Patrizio Masini's header from the resulting set piece rattled the crossbar, setting the tone for an exciting encounter.
However, the deadlock was broken in the 62nd minute, when Igor Tudor made a strategic substitution, bringing on Teun Koopmeiners, Filip Kostic, and Vlahovic. Just minutes later, Kostic whipped in a corner, and Vlahovic rose to score a thumping header past Leali, securing the win for Juventus.
Vlahovic's goal against Genoa proved more important than his goal against Parma, marking his second successive game score in the current season. The Serbian striker, who joined Juventus during the 2022/23 season after leaving Fiorentina, looked set to leave the club in the close season, but for now, he is proving vital.
The first half of the game provided little entertainment, with both teams struggling to create significant chances. The second half saw a few opportunities, but neither team could capitalise. Jonathan David had an opportunity to score from inside the six-yard box but blasted over. In added time, Caleb Ekuban had a shot that resulted in a corner, but Juventus held on to their lead.
Notable moments included Mikael Ellertsson turning Joao Mario in the box before getting a shot away, which was parried by goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio. Federico Gatti had a shot on target that required a reflex save from Nicola Leali.
Juventus' only change from their opening win over Parma saw Joao Mario replace the suspended Andrea Cambiaso. Despite the lack of improvement in the game after halftime, Vlahovic's performance was commendable. He stated after the match that he focused on coming in and doing well, and hopes to continue his form in the future.
In a game where chances were few and far between, Vlahovic's header proved to be the difference, securing all three points for Juventus and maintaining their perfect start to the season.
