German Ambassador's Farewell Address to Ukrainians

German Ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Jaeger, to Head Federal Intelligence Service

Martin Jaeger, the outgoing German Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, has served the country for two "intense and eventful years." As reported by European Pravda, Jaeger has been appointed as the head of Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND), starting on 15 September.

Jaeger, one of the German Foreign Ministry's most experienced "crisis diplomats," has had a distinguished career, with previous postings in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a video message from the German Embassy, shared on Twitter, Jaeger underscored Germany's steadfast support for Ukraine, expressing his gratitude to the Ukrainian people.

"I have been deeply impressed by Ukraine and its people, their courage, determination, and unwavering faith in freedom and a good future," Jaeger said in the message. He also mentioned that he will remain closely connected to Ukraine after leaving his position as ambassador.

The new German Ambassador to Ukraine is expected to arrive in Kyiv in mid-September. The name of the new ambassador has not been specified in the available information.

Bruno Kahl, who has headed the BND since 2016, will replace Jaeger and become Germany's representative to the Holy See in Rome. The BND, one of Germany's three intelligence services, focuses on foreign intelligence.

Jaeger's departure from his post in Kyiv comes as he steps up to lead the BND, a role that requires a unique blend of diplomatic acumen and strategic insight. His tenure as ambassador has been marked by his commitment to Ukraine and its people, a commitment that he reiterated in his farewell message.

In the same message, Jaeger also emphasised Germany's unwavering support for Ukraine. "Germany stands firmly by the side of Ukraine," he said. The video message from the German Embassy can be found on Twitter for those who wish to view it.

As Jaeger prepares to take on his new role, the people of Ukraine look forward to welcoming the new ambassador and continuing their close relationship with Germany. The change in leadership at the German Embassy in Kyiv is expected to be a smooth transition, ensuring continuity in the strong ties between the two countries.
