Prepare to step back in time as the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums in Mannheim unveil their highly anticipated dinosaur exhibition, titled "Dinosaurs - Fascination Prehistoric", beginning on October 12, 2025. This captivating event will run until August 2, 2026, offering visitors a thrilling journey through the world of dinosaurs.

The exhibition's centrepiece is a seven-meter-long replica of the "Europasaurus holgeri", a dwarf dinosaur that once roamed the small island in present-day northern Germany around 154 million years ago. This impressive model, weighing over 120 kilograms, has been meticulously reconstructed and is on loan from a dinosaur park near Hannover. The "Europasaurus holgeri" is named after its discoverer, Holger Lüdtke, and the region where it was found, Europe.

Accompanying the exhibition, the museum has compiled tips for excursions in the region, allowing visitors to explore fossil sites in the Odenwald or discover geological traces on educational trails. The exhibit also features finds from the Odenwald and the Palatinate, as well as Mannheim's own dinosaur history.

Among the pieces scanned for the exhibition is the prehistoric skull of an "Odenwaldia heidelbergensis", a giant amphibian - the first known find of this species in the Odenwald. Experts at the radiology department of Mannheim University Medical Center have used a state-of-the-art photon-counting computed tomography scanner to study several dinosaur bones and fossils.

The "Europasaurus holgeri" exhibition is expected to attract a crowd, with its display of fossils, skeletons, and reconstructions providing valuable insights into the evolution of dinosaurs. The showcase aims to showcase the evolution of dinosaurs from amphibians and reptiles to flying and marine dinosaurs.

Visitors can also learn about the "Odenwaldia heidelbergensis", a fascinating prehistoric giant amphibian, whose fossil was discovered in the region. This find is a significant addition to the understanding of the diverse dinosaur ecosystem that once thrived in the area.

In addition to the dinosaur-focused exhibits, the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums have prepared an engaging programme of events and activities for all ages, ensuring that everyone can enjoy and learn from this prehistoric adventure. So, mark your calendars for October 12, 2025, and join us as we delve into the fascinating world of dinosaurs at the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums in Mannheim.
