Goodbye to the City of Suffering

Heiko Hartig, a stalwart of municipal administration in the city of Peine, is retiring after a distinguished career spanning four decades. Mayor Klaus Saemann presented Hartig with his retirement certificate at a small farewell ceremony.

Hartig's career in Peine began in 1981 when he joined as an administrative service clerk. After completing his mandatory military service in 1986, he returned to the town hall and worked in various departments. His diligence and dedication soon caught the eye of his superiors, and he was selected for advancement to the middle level of the general administrative service after undergoing a two-year qualification program in 1987.

In the years that followed, Hartig's career progressed steadily. He was appointed head of the personnel department in 2007, a position he held for ten years before being promoted to director of the department of personnel and organization in 2014. During his tenure, Hartig was responsible for the areas of personnel, internal organization, elections, IT, and e-government.

Before his promotion to head of the personnel department, Hartig served as the head of the youth welfare office within the city administration of Peine. He also completed the advanced training course for the higher level of the general administrative service in 2000 and 2001.

Hartig's career trajectory demonstrates the diverse opportunities in municipal administration. His appointment as director of the corresponding staff unit since his appointment as director further testifies to his competence and commitment.

Mayor Klaus Saemann wished Hartig all the best for his new phase of life, expressing gratitude for his dedicated service to the city. Hartig, in his farewell address, expressed his gratitude to the city and its people for the opportunity to serve and grow professionally over the years.

As Hartig prepares to embark on a new journey, the city of Peine bids him a heartfelt farewell, appreciating his contributions and wishing him a happy and fulfilling retirement. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of municipal administrators in Peine.
