Governor Mbah launches a fleet of 100 CNG buses, asserting that this new transport system is expected to generate approximately 20,000 employment opportunities.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has unveiled a new transport system as part of his vision to transform Enugu into a model of modern infrastructure. The new system, which includes 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and state-of-the-art terminals, is expected to boost the economy of Enugu State and the country, aiming to grow the GDP of Enugu State to $30 billion and the country to $1 trillion within six years.
The CNG buses, designed to be air-conditioned and disability-friendly, are set to ensure over 40% reduction in household expenses on transport. They will also provide cheaper, accessible, and seamless movement for the people, with routes leading to schools and higher institutions. In addition, the state will roll out 2,000 hybrid vehicles to support the CNG buses.
The terminals, which are expected to entertain over 10 million commuters each year, offer a place of comfort after long journeys or interval breaks from long journeys. Each terminal is equipped with a fully air-conditioned hall, television screens, eateries, lodging accommodation, a fuel station, sunscreen covered walkways, solar-powered security lights/systems, and surveillance cameras. A modern transport e-ticketing process has been put in place to check leakages and manipulations.
The developmental efforts in Enugu State don't stop at the new transport system. Governor Mbah is also remodeling all bus stops within Enugu metropolis and most roads within the metropolis and other major cities in the state. This initiative is part of a broader plan that includes the construction of smart schools, smart type-2 primary healthcare centres, and the installation of surveillance cameras, all aimed at providing a comprehensive modern infrastructure for the state.
The president associated with Governor Mbah, whose vision and wisdom enabled projects for introducing a new transport system based on 21st-century infrastructure and services, is President Muhammadu Buhari. Governor Mbah acknowledged the efforts of the state's commissioner for transport, contractors, and others for ensuring the timely delivery of the projects.
The Chairman of Enugu North Council Area, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, thanked the governor for bringing order, aesthetics, employment, and one-stop transport comfort with two terminals built in the Holy Ghost axis of Enugu. The new transport system is expected to create over 20,000 jobs, further boosting the economy of the state.
Plans for rail services and waterways transport are at an advanced stage, with Enugu Air already launched. Governor Mbah credited President Bola Tinubu's vision and wisdom in removing fuel subsidy for the projects and the new transport system.
With these developments, Enugu State is set to become a beacon of modern infrastructure in Nigeria, providing its citizens with a comfortable, affordable, and efficient transport system.
