"Governor supports Pennsylvania's inclusion in the shared multi-state online poker market"
Pennsylvania, under Governor Josh Shapiro, formally joined the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement on April 28, 2025. This move makes Pennsylvania the sixth state in the agreement, significantly swelling the online poker player pool across the United States.
The agreement includes New Jersey, Nevada, Michigan, Delaware, West Virginia, and now Pennsylvania, encompassing approximately 38 million Americans from six states. Pennsylvania, with its substantial online gambling market, will be the largest state in the agreement, boosting the overall player pool by about 50% and counting an estimated 150,000 online poker players.
"Common sense" said Governor Shapiro in an interview with PokerGO President Mori Eskandani, highlighting the freedom people should have in playing poker, be it online or otherwise. The agreement aims to grow prize pools and create larger tournaments across multiple states.
The extension of online multi-state play will commence on April 28, initiating with BetMGM's online poker platform. Other platforms, such as PokerStars and WSOP.com, are anticipated to join soon after.
Additionally, operators like BetRivers are planning a four-state network combining Pennsylvania, Michigan, Delaware, and West Virginia. This will mark West Virginia's first legal online poker offering since its inception in 2019, with New Jersey set to join pending regulatory approvals.
WSOP.com has also expanded its player pool by linking up customers in PA, MI, NJ, and NV, enabling players to compete for online bracelets across these states. This expansion includes the announcement of 30 online bracelets for the 2025 WSOP Online, with five live final tables scheduled at the Horseshoe in Las Vegas.
Poker players across Pennsylvania, now part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement, will be able to compete with poker players from five other states, significantly increasing the online poker player pool in the United States. The expansion, initiated by BetMGM's online poker platform, also includes platforms like PokerStars and WSOP.com, aiming to grow prize pools and create larger tournaments across multiple states.
