Governor Wes Moore spotted aboard George Clooney's luxury vessel in Italian waters
Governor Wes Moore's Italian Trip Sparks Controversy
Maryland Governor Wes Moore's recent trip to Italy has been the subject of scrutiny, with questions being raised about the nature of the trip and its associated costs.
According to reports, Moore was accompanied by the National Guard during his trip, but his office has stated that he was not temporarily unable to perform his duties and did not appoint the lieutenant governor to serve as acting governor in his stead.
The controversy began when Spotlight on Maryland, a collaboration between FOX45 News, their website in Washington, D.C., and The Baltimore Sun, asked for a list of individuals who attended the Italian trip and those who interacted with Governor Moore during the trip. However, Moore's office did not directly answer most of the questions posed by Spotlight on Maryland.
Del. Mark Fisher, R-Calvert County, has expressed concerns about the lack of transparency surrounding the trip and believes that state residents, elected officials, and federal authorities should be given answers about the trip. He has made demands for transparency during the trip, but David Turner, Moore's senior advisor and communications director, refrained from commenting on Fisher's demands.
Spotlight on Maryland has also requested a complete list of all financial records for the Italian trip, including receipts related to transportation, meals, lodging, travel aboard vessels, and excursion details. However, the Maryland State Police (MSP) declined to provide more details about the estimated costs of the Italian trip, and MSP did not respond to additional questions about the potential security detail while international.
The White House has strongly condemned Governor Moore's international trip, but President Donald Trump announced he will be sending federal law enforcement intervention to Baltimore, which some have interpreted as a reaction to the controversy surrounding the Italian trip.
The photograph shows Governor Moore and Maryland First Lady Dawn Moore on the rear sundeck of a luxury yacht owned by actor George Clooney, who has previously expressed support for Moore as a potential Democratic presidential candidate. Clooney purchased an 18th-century villa in Italy in 2002.

This ongoing controversy surrounding Governor Moore's Italian trip highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in government, and it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds in the coming days.
