First-Grade Welcome Ceremonies in Greifswald's Primary Schools Set for September
The academic year 2025-2026 is fast approaching, and Greifswald's municipal primary schools are preparing for the first-grade welcome ceremonies. Here's a rundown of the events taking place at each school.
On September 6, 2025, the first-grade welcome ceremonies (Einschulungsfeiern) will take place at the Erich-Weinert-Grundschule, with the ceremonies starting at 9:30 AM. The Kaethe-Kollwitz-Grundschule and the Karl-Krull-Grundschule will hold their ceremonies on the same day, but the exact times vary. The Kaethe-Kollwitz-Grundschule will have three sessions, starting at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30 AM, while the Karl-Krull-Grundschule's ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM. The Martin-Andersen-Nexo-Grundschule, however, will not be holding its ceremonies on September 6. Instead, the ceremonies will take place on a later date, with sessions at 9:30 and 10:30 AM.
Each session at the Martin-Andersen-Nexo-Grundschule and Kaethe-Kollwitz-Grundschule will last for 30 minutes, with one session per class. The Karl-Krull-Grundschule will have three classes, with a total of 72 students, while the Kaethe-Kollwitz-Grundschule will have four classes, with 93 first-graders. The Grundschule Greif, on the other hand, will have 61 students in a total of six learning groups in grades 1 and 2, taught in a grade-transcending manner.
The first-grade enrollment for the municipal primary schools in Greifswald for the academic year 2025-2026 is 383 students, a decrease from the previous year's 387. Despite the decrease, the school with the most first graders enrolled in 2025 in Nordrhein-Westfalen is the Vitusschule (Lochnerallee) in Mรถnchengladbach, with 79 children enrolled on August 28, 2025. The second highest is the new Grundschule Am Ringerberg with 57 first graders.
The Grundschule Greif's first-grade classes will have their welcome ceremony in the Aula, while the Martin-Andersen-Nexo-Grundschule's first-grade classes will have their ceremony on the schoolyard (if good weather) or in the gym (if bad weather). The Kaethe-Kollwitz-Grundschule's first-grade classes will have their ceremony in the gym, and the Erich-Weinert-Grundschule's welcome ceremony will take place in the Aula of the Humboldtgymnasium.
The welcome ceremonies for classes 1a, 1b, 1c, DFLG 1 at the Erich-Weinert-Grundschule will take place at 9:30 AM, while classes for the Karl-Krull-Grundschule will take place at 11:00 AM. The first session at Grundschule Greif will start at 8:30 AM, with Lerngruppen 1/2c and 1/2f participating. The second session will start at 9:30 AM, with Lerngruppen 1/2b and 1/2e participating. The third session will start at 10:30 AM, with Lerngruppen 1/2a and 1/2d participating.
The first-grade welcome ceremonies at the Martin-Andersen-Nexo-Grundschule and Kaethe-Kollwitz-Grundschule will not be held on September 6, 2025, unlike those at the Erich-Weinert-Grundschule and Karl-Krull-Grundschule. More information about the exact dates and times will be announced soon.
