Greifswald advocates for the lifting of barriers: increased greenery for an enhanced urban atmosphere

In the heart of the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald, a significant transformation is underway on Grimmer Street. The changes, aimed at improving crossing opportunities and traffic safety, are part of a larger initiative to promote sustainable urban development, improve the city's climate, enhance living quality, and promote biodiversity.

The sealed surface on Grimmer Street has been broken up, making way for more small green oases. The median of the street has been planted with "Wild Red Thyme," adding a touch of colour and natural beauty to the urban landscape. Additional "Wild Red Thyme" has been planted to further enhance this green space.

The existing crossing aid on Grimmer Street has been removed, replaced by a pedestrian signal at the level of the "Hundertwelten" KITA and the general education school. This redesign includes the installation of the signal, aiming to provide improved crossing opportunities and further enhance traffic safety.

The adjacent green area on Grimmer Street has been expanded, creating more space for pedestrians and cyclists. The changes serve as an example of the city's commitment to creating more small green oases, breaking up hard-surfaced areas, and promoting sustainable urban development.

The responsibility for the implementation of green space urban development in Greifswald lies with the city administration, specifically the lower building supervisory authority (Untere Bauaufsichtsbehörde) of Greifswald, located at Stadthaus am Markt 15.
