In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, a promising startup named "Wellenpuls" is making waves in the intersection of technology and health. Founded by 25-year-old sports scientist and master's graduate in sports medicine technology, Christian Senfleben, the startup aims to provide lasting relief for those suffering from back pain and support companies in maintaining employee health and productivity.

Senfleben, who personally struggled with back pain during his teenage years, developed an interest in electrostimulation as a potential solution. During his master's studies, he conducted a study with 60 participants to test the effectiveness of a neuromuscular electrostimulation belt, which targets the musculature responsible for back pain. The results of the study were positive, with many participants expressing a desire to purchase the belt immediately.

The product that emerged from Senfleben's research is the "Wellenpulser," a portable electrostimulation belt. This innovative device can be worn during other activities and is operated for about 20 minutes. The "Wellenpulser" uses functional electrical stimulation (FES) to stimulate muscles directly or indirectly via the motor nerve electrically, promoting muscle strength and helping to alleviate pain.

"Wellenpuls" is currently based at Coworkit Solingen and is receiving guidance from the Mountaineer Accelerator, a startup funding program initiated by Solingen.Business. Phil Derichs, director of the Mountaineer Accelerator and Founder and Technology Center Solingen, is emphasizing close collaboration to implement the idea more quickly. Participating teams in the Mountaineer Accelerator have access to mentors from the Founder and Technology Center Solingen, as well as a wide network of experts from various industries and fields in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Christian Senfleben is seeking suitable distribution partners such as physiotherapists, personal trainers, naturopaths, and caregivers for the "Wellenpulser." Direct sales are planned due to the cost of medical device certification. The current sales partner of "Wellenpuls" is not publicly specified, and it is unclear whether they are still seeking such partners.

In addition to the "Wellenpulser" product, development of an additional app is also in progress. The goal of "Wellenpuls" is to provide help for people suffering from back pain and support companies in maintaining employee health and productivity. The "Wellenpulser" product is planned to be launched on the market in the fall.

With approximately one in three people suffering from chronic, nonspecific back pain, "Wellenpuls" aims to contribute to people being able to live pain-free again. The startup represents a promising solution in the fight against back pain, and its innovative approach is attracting attention in the health tech industry.
