In the early hours of Sunday morning, a shocking incident unfolded in Berlin's city centre. According to reports by the Bild newspaper, the attack occurred around 1:45 AM near Friedrichsbrücke, approximately 700 meters from Museum Island.

The police encountered the victims at the Rotes Rathaus and called for emergency services. The victims, both in their mid-twenties, were swiftly taken to the hospital. The condition of the Turks is not critical, authorities confirmed.

The attack was perpetrated by a group consisting of three women and seven men, all identified as Afghans. The motives behind the attack remain unclear, and no preceding altercation has been confirmed to have led to the knife attack.

In 2020, Berlin recorded a total of 3,412 knife attacks in the federal capital, making it the second-highest figure on record. The Berlin police have expressed concerns about an increase in knife attacks in the city.

The two Turks injured in the attack sustained injuries. One victim was stabbed in the lip, while the other received stab wounds to the back. After the attack, the victims managed to drag themselves to the Rotes Rathaus.

No further details about the motive for the attack have been provided. The attackers' specific names were not disclosed. It is worth noting that, in 2020, 58 percent of the attackers in Berlin did not hold German citizenship.

Despite the rise in knife attacks, the number of such incidents in 2020 was slightly fewer than the previous year. The police are currently investigating the incident and have not released any additional information at this time.
