In a tragic incident that unfolded early Monday morning, a shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, left two people dead and several others injured. The suspect, identified as Dakota Hawver, was later killed in an officer-involved shooting.

The incident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. in the valet parking lot of the Grand Sierra Resort casino. Witnesses reported seeing Hawver attempt to shoot at a group, but his gun malfunctioned. After the gun was operational, he fired at victims in the valet area and shot another person driving through the parking lot.

Upon arrival, the Reno Police Department, who had responded to a report of an active shooter at the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) at approximately 7:25 a.m., engaged in a shootout with Hawver. He was critically wounded and later died from his injuries.

The Grand Sierra Resort is expressing their heartbreak over the senseless violence that occurred on their property. They are grateful for the swift and courageous response by their armed security team and the Reno Police Department, whose actions helped prevent further harm.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with people fleeing the valet area and officers rushing to the scene in less than three minutes. One witness, Michael Sisco, stated he started shaking a half hour after the incident, realizing he could have been in the shooting location. Another witness saw a man clutch his stomach and fall to the ground, motionless.

The Reno Police Department and the Grand Sierra Resort have not yet released the suspect's possible motive for the shooting. Hawver's name was confirmed by later reports.

Two people died in the shooting, and a few others were treated for minor injuries at the scene but did not require hospitalization. The Grand Sierra Resort thanks the Reno Police Department for their rapid assistance and coordination.

Police are asking people to avoid the casino's west parking lot as the investigation is still active. The Grand Sierra Resort expressed their gratitude to the community for their support during this difficult time.
