The ongoing Gaza war has taken another significant turn, with Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, confirming the death of Hamas military wing spokesperson, Abu Obeida. The attack on Abu Obeida, veiled in public appearances and video messages, occurred nearly two years into the conflict.

The residential building in the Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza City was targeted, resulting in at least seven deaths according to the Hamas-controlled Civil Defense. The figures of casualties in the Gaza war do not distinguish between civilians and fighters of the terror organisations and cannot be independently verified, but are considered credible by the UN.

Katz described Abu Obeida's death as sending him to "the depths of hell" with other "eliminated actors of the Axis of Evil from Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen." He also congratulated the army and the Shin Bet internal security service for the "perfect execution" of the operation.

However, Hamas has not yet officially confirmed Abu Obeida's death. Some circles within Hamas claim the rumours about his death are part of Israel's psychological warfare. The Israeli army later confirmed that Abu Obeida had been killed in the attack.

The Gaza war began with the Hamas and other Islamic groups' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. During the conflict, terrorists have killed around 1,200 people and taken more than 250 others as hostages into the Gaza Strip.

It's worth noting that Israel has killed numerous high-ranking Hamas leaders and commanders in the past, including Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh, and Mohammed Deif. The UN considers the figures of casualties in the Gaza war to be credible, although they cannot be independently verified.

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, nearly 63,500 Palestinians have been killed and around 160,000 injured since the start of the Gaza war. As the conflict continues, both sides hope for a resolution that brings peace and stability to the region.
